Dear All,
I have the dubious pleasure of rebuilding an active/active sql cluster over
the Christmas period. With regards to this, am I better backing up and
restoring the databases or detaching them then re-attaching?
Cheers,
Adam M.I'd do both. You probably already have a regular backup maintenance schedul
e, right? So, those backups would be available to you to restore if necessa
ry.
Go ahead and detach. I'd write an attach script beforehand to ease bringing
the databases online if you have more than a handful.
Remember, the system databases will be deleted and new ones put in there pla
ce if you uninstall and reinstall; so, you might want to copy them to a anot
her directory before you start the reinstallation process.
Also, when you detach the databases, keep track of the various users default
db designations. If you reattach in a different order than when the databas
es were brought online, the logins will be mapped to other databases as thei
r respective defaults.
Sincerely,
Anthony Thomas
