Hi,
I am trying to implement a DTS to copy data from one server to another
(both servers are identical), Windows 2000 server and have installed
SQL Server 2000 sp3a.
The DTS in question has the two server connections defined as
"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" and there are several
"Transform Data Tasks" that copy data from tables on one server to
tables on the other. Unfortunately I have to run these steps often as
I am in the process of developing/debugging and I am experiencing one
of the following errors, always when the DTS arrives at the task of
copying the same large table:
Location somerge.c:1616
Expression: mrP->mrStatus!=MERGERUN::NONE
SPID: 78
Process ID: 724
Location recbase.cpp:1378
Expression: m_offBeginVar < m_sizeRec
SPID: 64
Process ID: 840
These errors do not always occur but either one or the other pops up
on a regular basis.
I have run DBCC checkDB and DBCC checktable on the affected Databases
and tables several times and have never found any errors.
Has anyone got any idea of what is causing this? Any suggestions of
what I can do to solve this?

Netsol Pvt Ltd|||Both passwords are the same. I don't see however what has
to do with the problem as each OLEDB server connection is
defined separately with the user to use for that
connection.

RebuildM gives me the following error message:
Cannot copy Master: There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.
I am not so sure which one is source, which one is destination? I tried to
delete and restore the master.ldf and master.mdf files and they are deleted
and restored fine, which means that they are not in use.
What else do I have to do in order to rebuild the master file?

From you information, when you use the rebuildm.exe to rebuild the master
database, you encoutere error message of:
Cannot copy Master: There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.
Based on my knowledge, The Rebuild Master utility reinstalls the master
database. Rebuilding the master database removes all database objects and
data. After rebuilding the master database, re-create the database objects
and reload the data, or reattach the data and log files using sp_attach_db.

\Data folder on the SQL Server compact disc or in the shared network
directory from which SQL Server was installed, and then click OK.

Rebuilding the master Database

I have a copy of SQL Server Express on a clients computer.

When i try & restart the services it fails with the following error:-

Error: 9003, Severity: 20, State1.

It looks like the master database has become corrupt & needs rebuilding.

I have found a utility rebuildm.exe that repairs the master db but unfortunately it is not supported in sql 2005.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to repair the master db.

Rebuildm.exe is used in sql 2000 .....i think you can rebuild as below,

copy the sql server express exe file to your local hard disk and then in cmd go to relevant path where the setup file resides and run the below code in command prompt.........

start /wait <CD or DVD Drive>\setup.exe /qn INSTANCENAME=<InstanceName> REINSTALL=SQL_Engine REBUILDDATABASE=1 SAPWD=<NewStrongPassword>

This works with sql 2005 and i think it will work with sql express also.........pls correct me if am wrong

Go to the appropriate path where your sql server setup.exe exist in the command prompt........I assume its in C:\test folder .......then command will be like this,

C:\Test> start /wait \setup.exe /qn INSTANCENAME="SQLEXPRESS" REINSTALL=SQL_Engine REBUILDDATABASE=1 SAPWD="XXXXX"

SQL Server Express always installs a named instance (SQLExpress) unless you select a default instance.

Reattaching old database

I have just installed SQLExpress version 9.0.1399.

I was using an earlier version of the server before and backed up a copy of my mdf files for safety's sake. However when I now try and attach the old databases I get an error that the database files from the old non-release version (590) is not compatible.

Probably my own fault - the information was probably clearly on display deep in a file somewhere in the documentation (cough). However I would kind of like to get at the data in these files.

Is there any way of getting hold of an earlier version of SQLExpress which will handle these files? Or can they be opened in any other way?

The full error message I am getting is:

Database 'myCMS' cannot be upgraded because its non-release version (590) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this version of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 950)

I have searched around for more information and the advice seems to be that I should open the database in an older copy of SQLExpress, dump the data with BCP and recreate the database.

So now my question is, where can I find installation files for earlier versions of SQLExpress as I don't seem to have a copy of the original executable?
