Reboot

I'm trying to install MSDE through a custom installation program. However, we all know that Microsofts Merge Modules are complete crap so the next best way of doing such a thing is to just call the "setup.exe" for MSDE itself.

My problem is that the MSDE setup prompts the user for a reboot. How can I supress this reboot so that my user will only have to reboot the machine after my program is installed?

I was told that the command /qb would work, but for whatever reason, it did not. Any ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated for this is the last "problem" with the current project.I've found this question in a few diffrent places but I could never find a clear cut answer. Hopefully the next person with this problem will find my post...

The answer is just send the command line "REBOOT=ReallySupress" when calling the setup.exe. I've been told this is case sensative.

Really new at this

I have MSDE running on my system and would like to make a new project or
import an mdb file.
When I attempt to make a new project, I enter the Administrator user name
and password and then after hitting next, I get the following error:
Connection failed:
SQLState:'28000'
SQL Server Error 18456
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user
'Administrator'.
I'm using the Administrator user name and password that I use to login in to
this Win2000 box.
What do I need to do?
Thanks.
I just selected to connect from a secure connection and now I have the
project, but the New button is grayed out for tables, view, stored
procedures, etc.
What should I do?
Is there a book or something on line I can read to get me started?
Thanks.

Ready for Production?

I must release a new Db on 4/1 into an isolated small network (pier workgroup) and my choices are MSDE or Express. I'm new to both (MSDE yesterday, Express today). I am familiar with SQL Server and prefer using the tools with Express, but is it stable enough to use in this type of production environment?

I hope so. I also am going live with SQL Express 05 around April or May and it will be ran on 1-15 computer systems at a time.

Also, just to make it fun... we are still running a VB6 front end so we are using ADO 2.8.

I think it is ready. One way to find out. I'll post here if i come across something crazy.

Yep, I think it's stable enough, we went live a month ago with a shrink-wrapped product using SQL Express as the backend.

Thanks for the comments Matt & Scott.

SQL Express released in November 2005 and I have not heard anything to suggest that it isn't stable enought to use as you've all suggested. There is a new member of the "family" called SQL Express with Advanced Services that has just been released to CTP. That is pre-release software so it should not be used in production environments at this time.
